Israel challenge

Israel challenge is a multi-optional program in Israel. It allows the individual to design their year according to their own wishes, needs and personal interest. The program can last between 5 and 10 months according to the options the participant chooses. All of our programs involve touring Israel, meaningful and creative encounters with young Israelis, commitment to Israeli society and volunteering

The Israel Challenge program has a number of aims for its participants

•To know the state of Israel with regards to its geographical, social and historical aspects

•To strengthen Jewish identity

•To fortify links between Diaspora Jews and the state of Israel

•To know Israeli society and current affairs

•To experience personal and group challenges

•To develop invaluable life skills which will prepare participants for life after their year in Israel

•To develop connections with Jews from around the world, not just Israel

•To create active and motivated members of the Jewish community

•To have a meaningful personal and group experience

We in Hanoar Hatzioni believe that in order to gain the most from their Israel Challenge each participant should have the choice to discover Israel in their own way. For this reason we have created a variety of ‘Pick and Mix’ options to suit the unique tastes of each participant. Our advisors in our British headquarters and Israeli headquarters will work with you to build the best program to suit your needs.

Now it's time to

In addition to the particular options each participant chooses for his own Israel Challenge, we believe that it is important for every individual to gain and overall understanding of the history, culture, society and politics of where they are living. For this reason we provide excursions, speakers and additional activities in order to gain an all-round Israel experience.

Hanoar Hatzioni also believes in the value of personal exploration. One cannot have a real experience of a country without indulging in its cafes, restaurants, bars, beaches, mountains, festivals and museums. Each participant will have free time in order to discover Israel for themselves.

Hanoar Hatzioni is a pluralist movement which caters for almost all levels of religious observance. For this reason the program does not break Shabbat or kashrut laws; however we place no restrictions on participants’ observance in their own free time.

The safety and security of the participants of all our programmes is of primary importance. This will take priority over all other issues

The security of the participants during the year is in accordance with the regulations of Security Department of the Jewish Agency as well as the Cheder Matzav. Each day we will be receiving updates of these regulations and adapting the restrictions imposed on our participants accordingly.

Medical services and insurance for illness and injury in Israel are included in the programme cost. Treatment related to pre-existing conditions is not included.

Financial assistance is available for those who are unable to cover the whole cost of the program. Funds are available by the UJIA and MASA who believe that no child, whatever their financial circumstances, should miss the opportunity to take part in an Israel experience program. If you are unable to afford the whole cost of the program, please tick the appropriate box on the initial application form. We guarantee complete confidentiality throughout this process.

For over 40 years Hanoar Hatzioni has been bringing people to Israel on challenging, exciting and unique programs. Today each year sees hundreds of people from around the world coming to Israel with Hanoar Hatzioni and we are continually growing and expanding.

MASA is the Gateway to Long-term Israel Programs, it enables thousands of Jewish young adults to spend a semester or a year in Israel in one of over 100 approved programs by providing information, scholarships and more.
